BOSTON, July 6 (Nationwide Times) — A German World Cup fan who said he was nervous about traveling to the United States told NBC 10 Boston that help from Boston residents and other warm encounters left him emotional and grateful.

Sebastian Krause said he had been “a bit scared” to visit the country because of what he had heard in overseas news coverage about shootings, criminals and safety.

But after the trip, Krause said he had “fall[n] in love with this country” and called the experience “so emotional,” adding that he had “cried in the stadium.”

Krause said local residents in Boston drove him to his hotel after he got stuck at a stadium. He said the kindness moved him so much that he had tears in his eyes.

In the NBC 10 Boston segment, Krause also said, “America is great,” and added: “Americans are not rude. Germans are not rude. If we are together, we can achieve great things.”

NBC reporter Oscar Margáin said Krause “never imagined his trip to America would be so emotional.”
