NEW ORLEANS, June 27 (DC Times Online) — James Carville called on Democrats to consider a formal split, saying he could not remain in the same party as Mamdani-backed candidates after New York primary wins by progressives.

Speaking on the Politicon podcast, the longtime Democratic strategist said, “I actually do think it’s time for Democrats to talk ‘the s-word.’ ‘Schism.’ I really do.” He also said, “I’m done,” and added, “I’m not in that f***ing political party.”

Carville singled out Darializa Avila Chevalier, a union organizer and Democratic congressional candidate described in coverage as backed by Zohran Mamdani. He said, “Lady, I ain’t in the same party as you,” and added that he did not want to be in a party “that denies the right of the state of Israel to exist.”

He said Democrats should “negotiate the terms of a schism” and told candidates he sees as outside the party line to “start your own movement” or “form your own party.” He also said there was “no place in the party” for them.

The remarks follow a July 2025 New York Times op-ed in which Carville warned that Democrats were moving toward a “civilized civil war” and said any rupture should wait until after the 2026 midterm elections.
