SALT LAKE CITY, June 26 (Brigham City News) — Utah Gov. Spencer J. Cox on June 25 ordered temporary statewide fireworks restrictions, saying extreme wildfire conditions have left the state with hundreds of fires and strained firefighting resources ahead of the Fourth of July holiday.

The governor’s office said the order gives the state forester authority to prohibit fireworks statewide during the Independence Day period through July 5. Municipal leaders, working with local fire officials, may still designate specific safe areas where fireworks can be used.

State officials said they will review wildfire conditions again before Pioneer Day on July 24.
