SAN FRANCISCO, July 23 (San Francisco News Online) — Marin County prosecutors have charged Sausalito City Manager Elaine Forbes with four misdemeanor counts tied to a yacht incident in Sausalito, and a judge on Wednesday ordered her released on her own recognizance after she agreed to a psychiatric evaluation.

Forbes appeared in Marin County Superior Court before Judge Cindee Mayfield. Jail records show she had been held on $50,000 bail before the court released her without requiring cash bail.

Defense attorney Randall Knox asked the court to cancel bail so Forbes could undergo a mental health assessment at Marin General Hospital. Forbes did not enter a plea during the brief hearing, and the court set her next appearance for Aug. 11.

Court records list four misdemeanor counts, including allegations of unauthorized lodging and theft. The case stems from an arrest over the weekend after law enforcement said Forbes was found aboard a yacht in Sausalito that did not belong to her.

Sam Singer, a spokesman for Forbes and her family, said she was experiencing a mental health crisis. Forbes has also served as a former director of the Port of San Francisco.
