CHICAGO, July 6 (Our Illinois Times) — The Federal Aviation Administration said it will investigate after a Delta Air Lines flight landed safely at Chicago Midway International Airport in Illinois on July 4 following a reported strike from a fireworks mortar just before landing.

Delta Flight 1076 was an Airbus A319 traveling from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the FAA said. Delta said the plane carried 52 passengers and six crew members, landed safely and taxied to the gate, and no injuries were reported.

The damage assessment was not the same in every account. Delta said mechanics inspected the aircraft after landing and did not find damage, while Chicago police told the BBC the plane had been struck by an unknown object that caused minor paint damage.

The FAA said the incident happened around 8:30 p.m. local time and that it will investigate.
